Du Mu,a famous poet of late Tang dynasty,is expert in both poem and article writing,as well as a militarist,noted Sun Zi and had exerted great an influence on military theory.Du Mu has a lot of poems and articles refer to his military concept.Du Mu expects to take part in the military and political affairs of Tang dynasty during his life.So his military concept has a great impact on his politics and poem and article writing.Military works of Du Mu is on the basis of his military concept,but academe has deficiency on this field.Including the deficiency of studying Sun Zi,limited in scope of poems and articles,and lack of treatises.This article is divided into four parts:introduction,text,and conclusion.The introduction introduces the reason of choosing this subject and the situation of research on this field.The text is divided into four chapters:The first chapter researches the characteristics of Du Mu noting Sun Zi,the detailed noting and full of literariness,widely quote other military books,recommend lots of specific examples of a battle,and dare to deliver his own concepts.And then summarize hischaracteristics of military concept,pay attention to make plan before a war,tend to make a successful surprise raid in a battle,and think highly of talented generals.The second chapter researches the military poems of Du Mu.Poems are divided into three parts according to subject matters.Namely recall with emotion,sing of or versify historic events,and respond with others.Du Mu expresses his patriotic and is frustrated for all his talent.The third chapter researches the military articles of Du Mu.Articles are divided into three parts,strategy thesis,tactics proposal and other articles refer to military concepts.These articles reflect his literature opinion of significance,and it is a performance of his concept of taking part in politics.The last chapter discusses the development of image of Du Mu.His image develops during late Tang dynasty to Qing dynasty,forming an image that combine a prodigal and a militarist.It is a fair appraisal that people accept.
