Abstract/Summary:
Hainan Island has been a place where many immigrants and ethnic groups have gathered since ancient times.There are also many cultural forms here.In addition to the two major nationalities,Li and Miao,there also is a special nationality,namely the Dans.The status of Dan people was very low,they lived an unsettled life by fishing on the sea for generations.With the progress of society,they ended the life on the water to inhabit on land under the support from the government.Therefore,the custom of Dans has gradually been assimilated by that of land dwellers.At the beginning of 2016,the National Tourism Administration announced Hainan as one of the first national region-based tourism demonstration zones.Thus,the government begun to attach importance to the development of folk culture resources and strived to build local brands of Hainan.the folk culture of the Dans is an important part of Hainan’s marine cultural resources,for it embodies the evolution of life,production,beliefs and mentality of the people in Hainan.The unique folk culture of the Dans contains many history information of Hainan in the historical changes.These folk cultural resources contribute to fully understanding Hainan’s culture.Out of the curiosity of native culture in Hainan and visual sign,this thesis is focused on the three aspects of life,production,and beliefs.The visual sign that represents the Dans the most is explored from many folk cultural sources,so as to develop more folk tourism resources and business values of the Dans,to establish its brand culture,to enrich Hainan’s cultural and creative products,and to inherit and promote the local culture of the Dans.Furthermore,some suggestions are made in the thesis for the construction and development of Hainan,so as to contribute to the strategy of "maritime power" and"International Tourism Island".
