Confucius Institute at Middle East Technical University is the first Confucius Institute in Turkey.Since its establishment in 2008,Confucius Institute at Middle East Technical University has taken the lead in exploring Chinese teaching and Chinese cultural promotion in Turkey.Therefore,the development model of Confucius Institute at Middle East Technical University is more representative.During the period of the author volunteering as a Chinese teacher at Confucius Institute at Middle East Technical University,questionnaires,interviews,and case analysis were used as the main research methods based on related theories of teaching Chinese as a foreign language and communication science.Student,teacher,textbook,classroom teaching,Chinese course examination,HSK and HSKK,Confucius Institute scholarship,and cultural activities of Confucius Institute at Middle East Technical University were conducted in this research.Confucius Institute at Middle East Technical University has achieved high commendations and acknowledgments in Chinese teaching and Chinese cultural promotion.Meanwhile,there are also some problems such as weak continuity of Chinese teaching,weak relevancy between teaching and testing,large fluctuation in student number,large fluctuation in candidate number of HSK and HSKK,and large fluctuation in participant number of cultural event.Through clarifying course orientation,paying attention to teaching files,improving teachers’ language proficiency,using candidates’ native language,localizing rules and regulations,improving hardware level to improve Chinese teaching.By digging common cultural heritage,creating series of brand cultural activities,strengthening intercollegiate cooperation between colleges and enterprises,forming a combination of the cultural promotion,innovating ways of publicity to improve the effectiveness and influence of Chinese cultural promotion.These suggestions not only provided solution for the sustainable development of Confucius Institute at Middle East Technical University,but also provided reference and inspiration for the Chinese teaching and Chinese cultural promotion of other Confucius Institutes in Turkey and Confucius Institutes in other regional. |
