| The narrative text mainly focuses on describing events in life.Its contents are expressed without exaggeration,and its language features plain and real tone.What’s more,the feeling of the text is natural and true.The translation from English into Chinese plays a fundamental and significant role in ensuring reproduction of the original text.Therefore,an accurate research about translation methods in the field of narrative text exerts an important influence on its translation.Chosen from The Atlantic,the source text of the report is the excerpt of “My President Was Black”,which is a narrative text that delivers an introduction of the first black president of America,Barack Hussein Obama,involving his growth,family background,daily life and political activities.During his presidency,Obama implemented a series of new policies and reforms that fully showed his outstanding political talent and charisma which attracted people’s eyes.To promote Chinese readers further understand the growth process,family life and achievements of the former President of the United States,a well-translated version of Obama’s introduction is indispensable.Based on Peter Newmark’s communicative translation theory,the report focuses on the reflection and summary of the translation process of excerpt parts of “My President Was Black”.In the process of translation,the author attempted to present a target text acceptable and comprehensible to the Chinese readers.The most significantly,the author mainly explored the relevant translation methods and strategies to deal with the three kinds of clauses in the narrative text: attributive clauses,adverbial clauses and noun clauses.To increase the readability of the version,pre-modifier and restructuring are chosen as the main strategies to translate attributive clauses,linear and reverse translation are used to deal with adverbial clauses,linear and division translation are ideal for translating noun clauses. |
