Nowadays, there are two types of teaching mode in teaching Chinese as a second language. One is traditional classroom teaching, the other is one-on-one teaching. In contrast with there are flows of studies of classroom teaching,Chinese scholar’s studies on one-on-one teaching are not sufficient. So we need to constantly explore and perfect this kind of teaching form. The one-on-one teaching also includes two types. The one is one-on-one instruction, the other is one-on-one tutoring teaching. The paper mainly focuses on the one-on-one tutoring teaching.First of all,the thesis is based on a questionnairewhich is designed for teachers and students who are involved in a Chinese learning project in Shanghai.Besides the questionnaire, students are interviewed as well in order to ensure the survey result to be more trustable and complete.By analyzing the questionnaires,we can find some points that deserve more investigation in one-on-one tutoring teaching method.Secondly,by presenting and analyzing different cases of paragraph expressions and free conversations, the thesis is intended to discover the characteristics of one-on-one tutoring cases and provide relevant teaching advice.Paragraph expression ability is an important part of oral expression which can be improved greatly under one-on-one tutoring situation. While free conversation abilityis also necessary in one-on-one tutoring class. It is noteworthy how teachers conduct free conversations with students to improve their language ability in listening and speaking. In the last part, the thesis will present all the main point-views and its shortcomings as well to conclude all the questions surveyed above.
