Russian constructivism(hereinafter referred to as "constructivism")originated in1917.It is an artistic style that pursues pure abstraction after cubism.Influenced by the trend of thoughts of Marxism,it developed after the Russian Revolution, the Avantgarde artists at that time attempted to establish a new order to replace the old one.In the original cubism, there is an approach of connecting the figure with the concrete world and to interpret the art. However,it no longer exists in the constructivist works where more basic abstract elements have been adopted instead."Line" is one of the fundamental elements that consist of an artwork and the most basic unit of visual communication.Different types of "lines" embody the concept of linearity and make it appear in reality.Linearity is very common in life and various art disciplines.Although the significance and the effect of applying linear elements in each art form are slightly different,it is not hidden in itself. In addition, the art trend of constructivism demonstrated the tendency of development in architecture and sculpture as the main creative form in the subsequent development. As the fundamental element of artistic creation,"Line" has been expressed in the purest and most extreme way, which has had a profound influence in the subsequent development of modern sculpture.Through this discussion, the author will try to sum up several linear forms in the sculpture works of constructivism, analyze the typical works corresponding to each form, and the subsequent development of linear language under the influence of constructivism.Meanwhile, the linear expression is also an integral part of the author’s art practice.Nowadays, art presents a variety of features, the boundaries of art are constantly widened, and the exertion of linear language is also quietly transforming during the process of inheritance and exploration.
