The famous American translation theoretician Nida favored that "translating is communicating". Translating is to transmit messages. To better transmit the message, the translator must grasp the meaning of the source language. The meaning of the word out of context, however, possesses polysemy and ambiguity, rendering uncertainty and divergence to the whole message. The same is true to the meaning of the sentence and the text that are out of context. This certainly, makes translation difficult. To get a correct and exact meaning of a certain word, sentence or text, it is necessary for the translator to study the meaning within context, which is then the "context meaning". Only by mastering the meaning of the source language document within context, could a translator transmit more exactly the message or the idea of the author or the speaker.Context is a key factor in translating as well in other communicating activities. Only by interpreting the context accurately can we understand the original works and perceive their styles. And on this basis, our translation can possibly be made as accurate, expressive and vivid as possible. In the process of translating, context has great influences on the selection of meanings;since the feature of style presents itself in aspects like stylistic or emotional colors, text structure, etc., which attribute to the forming of context. To understand the context becomes the prerequisite of reproduction the style. By classifying context into three categories, namely textual context, paralinguistic context, and non-linguistic context, this thesis aims to demonstrate the influences of context analysis on translation in terms of meaning selection and style reproduction and put forward different translation strategies in different contexts based on contextualism..On the one hand, the thesis starts with influences of context analysis on selection of meaning, particularly analyzes classifications and functions of context and causes of which context has great influences on selection of meaning, namely semantic indeterminacy and semantic changes. On the basis, the thesis enumerates large numbers of examples and discusses influences of context on selection of meanings or words from three respects of textual context, paralinguistic context and non-linguistic context. On the other hand, the thesis begins with mfluences of context analysis on reproduction of style, and elaborates the relationship between context and style, and then concretely sets forth the reproduction problem of the style and manner of writing of the original. To sum up, only by understanding the whole text of the original, discerning the interrelation among the three aspects of context, considering the influences of various linguistic factors on selection of meaning, and daring to break away from the cord of paraphrases of dictionary, can the author gain the optimal meaning which can embody the intention and style of the original best, hammer-harden meaningful, profound and implied good version, and transmit the information quantity of the original to the readers of the target text to the utmost extent. Besides, the author should make acquainted with the pragmatic effects of various different levels of formality and clear about the standard requirements of multifarious different types of writings, only by which, can s/he translate the style of the original author and manifest the verve of the original text by appropriate diction, decent style of writing and style tallying with criterion.
