With the continuous improvement of Chinese overall national strength,more and more foreigners begin to learn Chinese,and Chinese language has also begun to go abroad and take root in various countries of the world.Therefore,the study of motivation of learning Chinese as a second language has gradually developed.However,most of studies are conducted on foreign learners who are not learning Chinese in the target language environment.There are few studies on the learning motivation of Chinese learners in China.And the most objects of learning motivation researches are the students of Thailand,Burma and other Central Asian countries and European and American countries.The students of Japan and South Korea,which belong to the Chinese character culture circle,are not often taken as the object of research,not to mention the strategies that motivate their to learn Chinese based on their research.Therefore,the paper based on the theories of learning motivation of second languages in China and abroad,and the relevant theories of Chinese as a second language learning motivation to divide the learning motivation of Chinese into 12 kinds of motivations,such as accomplishing task type,going abroad demand type,occupation need type,satisfying communication type,cultural interest type,etc.Taking 43 Korean students from the Overseas Education Institute of Soochow University as the object of study,this paper investigates the relative situations of the Korean students in these 12 types of motives through a questionnaire survey and data analysis,and further tests whether factors like gender,age and HSK level has an impact on the magnitude of their learning motivation.According to the survey results,combined with the teaching experience of the author and other teachers,the corresponding stimulation strategies are put forward.According to the investigation and the research,the results of this paper are as follows:The learners ' Chinese learning motivation is at the middle and high level,except for the family and friends suggestion type and accomplishing task type,the average value of the other 10 types of motivation is greater than 3.It was found that gender,age,HSK level and duration of learning Chinese has an effect on learners ' Chinese learning motivation.Generally speaking,boys ' motivation of study is higher than that of girls.The learning motivation of learners who study Chinese within half a year is better than that of the other three groups of learners.Learners of HSK Level 5 or level 6 are less than the other two groups in addition to the family and friends suggestion type and accomplishing task type.The learners over age of 25 are generally better than the other two groups.Although different grades and whether learning other languages besides Chinese do not have a significant impact on the motivation of Korean students studying at Soochow University,overall,the motivation of the fourth-year learners is generally higher than that of the other grade learners.And the highest average value is on the responsibility mission.The learners who did not learn other languages except Chinese were generally more motivated than those who learned other languages.Based on the results of the survey and the teaching practice of the author and other teachers,this paper proposes some strategies for motivating Korean students at the Suzhou University to learn Chinese base on three aspects: learning situation,learners,and teachers.
