Report On One-Stop Serrvice Guidance Translation Project

More extensive economic and technological cooperation and exchanges have been conducted between China and ASEAN countries,ever since Nanning was confirmed as the permanent host of the CAEXPO in 2003.Thereafter,English has been regarded as a Lingua Franca in the course of communication.Under such circumstances,Ministry of Investment and Planning of Lao PDR issued One-Stop Service Guidebook in Laotian,and later translated it into English.Guangxi-ASEAN Technology transfer Center(CATTC)was entrusted to promote the Guidebook to major enterprises or institutions in China for the purpose of attracting foreign investment.The author hopes that the translation of source text can help domestic enterprises or institutions familiar with investment regulations and procedures of Lao,and that this report will provide certain translation method for this type of text.The Report summarizes the E-C translation process of One-Stop Service Guidance,including project background,translation process,case studies and the translator's reflection of the translation project.In the light of Newmark's translation theory,the author analyzes some specific cases:(1)lexically,the author adopts such translation methods as referring to parallel texts,literal translation and free translation in handling the translation of names of legal documents and government departments;(2)syntactically,in order to ensure language of translation text conforms to codes of target language,the author applies sentence reconstruction and amplification to deal with long and complex sentences.
