Research On Liang Zhangju’s Calligraphy

As a famous calligraphy scholar in the middle Qing dynasty,Liang Zhangju was also a pioneer in the development of inscription calligraphy in Qing dynasty.This thesis takes the calligraphy of Liang Zhangju as the research object,and makes deep exploration into five aspects of Liang Zhangju such as his books,thoughts and practice of calligraphy.First,starting from the origins of Liang’s calligraphy,the thesis points out that a good family background is the foundation of his calligraphy,and calligraphy scholars such as Weng fanggang and Ruan Yuan have played a huge role in promoting the development of his calligraphy.Second,through textual research Liang Zhangju’s calligraphy works,the thesis has solved problem in the present study such as confusions in calligraphy works,and explored the important role of Liang Zhangju’s calligraphy works playing in the process of development of calligraphy on the calligraphy education,the research of calligraphy history,and collection and identification of painting and calligraphy.Third,the thesis conducts studies on Liang Zhangju’s calligraphy thoughts,then reviewing the development of “southern and northern calligraphy styles”,the thesis concludes that Liang Zhangju’s idea of distinguishing southern and northern calligraphy styles according to the styles of calligraphy and calligraphy thoughts was earlier than the perception of Kang Youwei and is the starting point of Kang’s theory.Fourthly,this thesis combines the calligraphy thoughts with the practice of calligraphy to examine the history of Liang Zhangju’s learning of calligraphy and his style of calligraphy.At the same time,this thesis also probes into the contradiction between Liang Zhangju’s learning practice of calligraphy and thoughts of inscription calligraphy.Fifth,thought Liang Zhangju’s calligraphy has played an important role in the development of calligraphy the middle and late Qing dynasty,but there are some limitations.
