| Liang Yan is a famous calligrapher and calligraphy theorist in Yangtze-Huaihe region during Qianlong years, and is also an excellent calligraphy educator. He lives in a special period in which both calligraphy and stele develops quickly, and calligraphy aesthetics meet its turning point in this period. Through out his life, Liang Yan insists on the traditional calligraphy aesthetics and tries to learn from those calligraphers of Wei-Jin and Tang dynasties. He is as eminent as Zhang Zhao, Wang Shu, Liu Yong and Wang Wenzhi, and is called as "Three Liangs" together with Liang Shanzhou and Liang Wending. Liang Yan and Kong Guyuan both learn from Zhang Zhao, so they are also called "South Liang North Kong" which means Liang is the master in Southern part and Kong in the Northern part.Based on the detailed documents of Liang's information and his works, this paper discussed the birth-death dates and acquaintances of him, guides a more specific recognition to him. According to previous research, this paper generalizes Liang's calligraphy thoughts reflected in his Pingshu Tie and Chengjinzhai Jiwenlu, thus tries to form a systematical research. This paper also studies Liang's calligraphy works and makes a through inquiry towards his Baojinzhai Tieba and finds out that his calligraphy style is formed on his own experiences. Besides, the research on Liang's influence to Deng Shiru, Duan Yucai and Xiao Jingyun is also included in this paper. |
