The source text of this translation practice project is Trading People: Slavery and Migration in the 21 st Century,a chapter excerpted from Transnational America: Contours of Modern US Culture,written by Russell Duncan,director of the Center for Transnational Cultural Studies at the University of Copenhagen.In this chapter,the author mainly analyzes slavery and migration under the context of globalization in the 21 st century,and the indivisible connections among globalization,slavery and migration.The text as a whole belongs to the category of humanities and social sciences,and has the solemnity,objectivity and academic nature of the general essays in style.During the whole process of the translation practice,I have checked some related works and analyzed the content and language features of the source text,and finally adopted social semiotics translation theory as the guiding theory of the translation practice task.Based on this theory,the study report of this translation practice explores the translation methods and strategies of humanities and social sciences articles through specific case studies.Besides the Introduction and Bibliography part,the study report of this translation practice consists of five parts.The first part mainly describes the translation task.The second part discusses the translation process of Trading People: Slavery and Migration in the 21 st Century.The third part is about the theory used in the translation process,namingly social semiotics translation theory.The fourth part analyzes the specific translation examples from the three aspects of designative meaning,linguistic meaning and pragmatic meaning guided by social semiotics translation theory.The fifth part summarizes the problems.encountered in the translation practice and the implications for future study and work.
