The Song and Yuan Dynasties is a period of great development of Chinese porcelain.Due to rapid progress in carving decoration and color decoration,porcelain decorations had qualitative advances and myriads of changes.The flower medallion as the style of the Chinese traditional patterns,is decorated on porcelain in the Song and Yuan Dynasties.It is one of the important porcelain decorations.Through the discussion of the concept,the flower medallion is divided into narrow group and broad sense.Analyse the similarities and differences between the flower medallion and other medallions and seek the spiritual connotation of the flower medallion.On the basis of this,by using method of archaeological typology,classify the types and periods of the flower medallion on porcelain of Northern region.And sum up style features,decoration techniques,decoration position and organization style of each stage.Distinguish the similarities and differences of the flower medallion on porcelain between the Chinese Northern and Southern regions in the Song and Yuan Dynasties.It is considered that the flower medallions on porcelain of the Southern and Northern regions in the Song and Yuan Dynasties are not only distinctive but also influenced by each other.The paper also discusses the flower medallion on porcelain of the Song and Yuan Dynasties inherits and develops the flower medallion on porcelain of the Sui and Tang Dynasties,as well as it's influence on the flower medallion on porcelain of the Ming and Qing Dynasties.
