Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the study of the Eastern Han imperial mausoleum was divided into two distinct stages according to the difference of research methods. The first stage was 1949-2003,the exploration period for the study of the Eastern Han imperial mausoleum. The conditiaon is very limited,so the discussion in this period is mainly concentrated in the position of imperial mausoleum. The biggest breakthrough is to determine the distribution pattern of the Eastern Han Dynasty imperial mausoleum, that is "North five South six",and there is little meaningful progress in other aspects. But it is worth appreciating that scholars began to study cultural relics such as yellow square stone and tombstone beside the literature. The second stage, from 2003 to date,is the great development period of the Eastern Han Emperor Mausoleum research. In 2003,the National Archaeological project,"the archaeological investigation and survey of the tombs of Mangshan tombs",and the research subject of the National Cultural Relics Bureau,"the study of the imperial tombs of the Han Dynasty",were launched at the same time. The two academic institutions, the Luoyang Institute of Archaeology and the History College of the Zhengzhou University, concentrated a large amount of human and material resources on the East Han tombs and carried out comprehensive archaeological work and research. The research on the scope of the mausoleum, the distribution of tombs of imperial mausoleum, the form of tomb, the cemetery and the burial tomb have made many breakthroughs, and some basic conditions of the Eastern Han imperial mausoleum have been confirmed. In 2007,the discovery of the cemetery in Bai cao po village filled the historic gap in the archaeology of the imperial cemetery in the Eastern Han Dynasty."Henan Luoyang Yanshi East Han Dynasty Emperor Mausoleum and the Mangshan tombs in Luoyang" were selected as the ten new archaeological discoveries in the whole country. In April10,2018,the "archaeological survey and excavation of Henan Luoyang East Hanimperial mausoleum",which was jointly declared by the Luoyang Institute of Archaeology and the History College of the Zhengzhou University, was re selected for the "ten major archaeological discoveries" of the 2017 year.At this point, the archaeological work in the Eastern Han Dynasty imperial tombs has been largely ended.Experts have a high evaluation of the archaeological work, and believe that the published results have a landmark significance in the history of China's Archaeology and even in the history of civilization. It has filled a significant gap in the archaeological circle of China and is of great significance to the study of Chinese civilization. In addition, the discoveries and studies of the princes and the high grade tombs of Luoyang areas throughout the two periods have provided a large amount of physical reference for the study of the imperial mausoleum system and the jade clothes system in the Eastern Han Dynasty, which effectively deeply and expanded the study of the Eastern Han Dynasty. This paper, based on the discovery and research of the Eastern Han imperial mausoleum since the founding of the people's Republic of China, presents the exploration of the Eastern Han imperial mausoleum, explores the internal rules of academic research, and provides a certain reference for the deepening and expansion of the study of the Eastern Han Dynasty imperial mausoleum.
