The Analysis Of "Either X Or Y" On "Construction Chunks"

"Either X or Y" is a common format in modern Chinese,which are often used in written language or in daily communication.In this paper,based on the previous studies,the structure and internal semantic meaning of "either X or Y",which is a classic construction using the "Construction Chunks",has been analyzed.The structure properties and features have been studied from the syntactic semantic and pragmatic three plane angles.The specific content of this article is divided into the following three parts:The first part is the first chapter of introduction,which elucidates the background and significance of this paper,the research object of this paper,the methods and data sources.Finally,the research situation of the type of Chunk Theory,and the "either X or Y" inadequacy of the research on the present situation and the there have been introduced.The second part includes the second chapter and the third chapter of this article.According to the grammar,"either X or Y" could be judged as a construction;and then the structure of grammar meaning have been analyzed in the third chapter(i.e.constructional meaning)and its internal semantic configuration,the structure is divided into two chunks,and the formation of "typical individuals within the scope of the typical individual within the scope of 1-2" chunk chain.At the same time,according to the number of internal parallel constructions,the constructions are divided into two parallel and multiple parallel.The third part includes the fourth chapter and the five chapter of this paper.From the syntactic,semantic and pragmatic perspectives,we examine the nature and characteristics of the construction of "either X or Y".Syntactically,the structure type is composed of variable X,Y and constant "(or)",among them,X and Y could be noun,predicate,small words or belong to different parts of speech or grammatical units,Y can also bear the X coincidence;the structure also has a variety of syntactic functions,in addition to,complex clauses,which can also serve as subject,object,attributive,adverbial,parenthesis and appositive in the sentence.In terms of semantics,there are six semantic relations between chunks,X,and Y,which are parallel,opposite,hierarchical,inclusive,sequential,irrelevant or closely related.In pragmatics,the most significant expression of this structure is the enumeration function,and it also has the function of supplementation and selection.
