From the late Qing Dynasty to the founding of New China,Chinese society experienced a period of transition.In the melting pot of this great era,Y.T.Wu,the Christian liberal theologian who showed stronger social concern and patriotic enthusiasm than other thinkers of the contemporary.The dissertation take Y.T.Wu's “Three-Self” movement as the main line,reviewed the relation between Y.T.Wu and the origin of Christianity;the transformation of Y.T.Wu's Christian theology before New China;the Christianity reform movement led by Y.T.Wu after New China;and the practical significance of Y.T.Wu's Christianity reform thought.The dissertation starts with the complex historical background of Y.T.Wu's age,analyzed Y.T.Wu's life and his relationship with Christianity.From this we can see the rough experience that Y.T.Wu chose Christian as his whole life career in that deep-rooted feudal society,which presented an intellectual extraordinary life pursuit from Suspected to convert to Christianity,eventually he devoted himself to the career of Christianity.Secondly,the dissertation start from the Christian thought of anti-Japanese War period,through clarify the concepts of God and Jesus in the system of Y.T.Wu's theology to find out the difference between his theological thinking and traditional Christian,and his effort about reconcile Christian with the “science” and “materialism” which popular in society at that time through the pursuit of truth.He believe that Christian should carry on the responsibility and make effort especially during the War time.At the same time,Y.T.Wu Followed the Christian principle of "love",proposed to transform the society,work hard to realize an ideal society,save the society and realize the heaven on earth.“The Heaven on Earth”,this concept also predicts the rationality of Y.T.Wu's theology and removes “mysticism”.In the face of the churches in China have encountered the challenge of society and era at the same time,Y.T.Wu efforts to adjust the tensions between church and society,to the survival and development of Christianity in China to find a suitable way.Further on,after the founding of new China,in order to achieve the aspirations of an ideal society,Christianity must develop into China's own Christianity and adapt to the development of Chinese society.Y.T.Wu firmly believe that only to reform the church can we find a way out for the development of Christianity in China,therefore,under the support of the central government in 1950,Y.T.Wu and others launched " Three-Self " innovation movement.The movement is not only to make the Christian get rid of the relationship and imperialism,promoting the independence of the church,but also to ensure that Christianity can reasonably the survival and development in the new regime.Therefore,the Three-Self Movement is not only a religious reform movement,but also an anti-imperialist patriotic movement of political nature.In the end,Y.T.Wu's Christian reform ideology seems to deviate from the fundamentalist Christian ideology,but his understanding and use of Christian theological thinking is more easily accepted by Chinese society and intellectuals without Western religious background.Judging from the results of development,in a sense,the Three-Self Movement has derived Chinese Christianity has gained a living space.Meanwhile,it has also formed a unique new form of the Chinese Church,which has formed a controversial new scene in the Chinese Church today.Y.T.Wu's Christian reform ideology is a key step for Christianity adapting with socialism,and it is still have significance on that Christianity handles the relationship with social changes and other aspects today.
