| Christianity has a strong universal and social characteristic,placing great emphasis on social services.At the end of the nineteenth century,with the spread of the social gospel,Christian secular work gradually extended to the industrial field.Starting from the charitable cause,Christianity began its task in industry,carrying out a number of technical education for some poor followers,offering a simple technical curriculum in some orphanages and institutes for deaf-mutes,and setting up a number of industrial schools,later some Christian Universities also added the industrial courses,which all made up for the insufficiency of modern industry and vocational education of China.In view of the "Evil results" of the Western Industrial Revolution,Christianity also took measures to ease the labor dispute in China,tO improve the living conditions of laborers, and to promote their wisdom and knowledge,in addition,Christianity advocated exploiting Christian training in the industrial area and establishing a system of Christian economy.On the whole,the Christian ministry of industry was more dispersed,which did not only form a large-scale movement but also there was little practice for showing off, mainly in the form of calling on information and public advocacy.It was not stirring as the Christian Rural Movement and not far-reaching as the Christian Education.However, the Christian ministry of industry also had a certain significance of model,having an effect on promoting and improving industry,optimizing industrial conditions,so it is worthy of our detailed study.Based on the rich,published and unpublished primary resources,This thesis attempts to all side study the Christian industrial work in the specified period of modern China,researching the Christian contribution to the industrial improvement,industrial reform as well as the optimization of industrial environment in modern China,and explaining its role in the history of industrial and social development in China.
