Abstract/Summary:
During the end of Qing Dynasty and beginning of the Republic of China,with the appearance of Western travelers,the rise of the urban middle class,the development of transport infrastructure and the change of public attitudes,traditional tours were believed to be endowed with aged connotation and culture mission,and thus transformed to modem ones.A sudden blowout of travelers has given rise to the advent of guidebooks that would provide information,offer guidance,which were known as guides for travel.With the development of railway construction,travelling by railway has become a more preferred way by more people,thus giving rise to the emergence of a special railway travel guide to provide them with information about tickets,ride,and also about the cities along the railways.The appearance of these Guidebooks is actually owed to the development of railway construction,the rise of modern travel,along with the prosperity of the publishing industry.Moreover,they also had their own specific procedures for publication and distribution.By analyzing the railway travel guides from "Paper",it is hoped that their features such as the style,layout and logic would be displayed to the public,which are deemed to play a special role for people’s mental and cognitive understanding of the railway travels,country and the nation.They as the legacy of the history,also play an important role for the study of social economy of the Republic of China and the railway operation system.
