English songs are an indispensable part of English culture,not only showing the unique culture of English-speaking countries to the world,but also offering an important source of information to English learners.As a priority in Junior high school education,English teaching and learning poses a great challenge compared with English teaching in primary school education because of the wide range of difficult teaching content and insufficient enthusiasm for English learning.Teaching combined with English songs which are featured with beautiful melody and distinct rhythm wins the popularity among students for it goes along well with the cognitive and physical and mental development of current junior high school students.The introduction of English songs into junior high school English classroom plays a positive role in improving teaching efficiency.Nevertheless,in reality,contents concerning English song appreciation are often neglected and cannot be implemented,which in turn deprives students of the access to English songs and eliminates positive effects brought by English songs on English teaching.Therefore,based on former researches,this paper,by stratifying samplings from selected schools,on-site observations,interviews with teachers and students and other research measures conducted a research on application of English songs to English teaching in junior high schools in Lu’an city,analyzed problems in English teaching practice and put forward targeted English song teaching strategies,with a view to inspire English teaching and future researches.The survey has shown students have high expectation on learning English through songs;Most English teachers have realized the feasibility and importance of introduc ing English songs into their class,however,there are many issues related to teaching English through songs.Teachers lack understanding of requirements in English curri culum standard and have not attached importance to the role of songs in English teac hing;the English songs selected by teaches are not appropriate;teaches are not able t o explore values hidden in English songs due to their lack of practices.The author he reby has proposed suggestions regarding the existing issues.Lastly,this paper presen ted teachers’ discussion on strategies for listening and oral English classes,which tar gets to intrigue students’ enthusiasm and interests in learning English through applyi ng more teaching methods and adding interesting English knowledge and help stude nts admire the beauty of English language and improve their understanding of the cul ture of English-speaking countries.
