This report is an analysis and summary of the practice of consecutive interpreting of the guide's speech in Confucius Temple. The interpreter is invited by her friend Pierce to visit the Confucius Temple and interpret the guide's speech for him.Taking the constructions made by Chinese emperors as a thematic concern, the speech covers the Temple architecture,Confucianism,Chinese myths and legends, historical events, and other related knowledge. The present interpreting practice, guided by the Triangular Model of Interpretive Theory, focuses on delivering the sense of the guide's speech through three steps:comprehension,de-verbalization and reformulation, which emphasizes the speech's meaning and connotation in the target language. The report consists of five chapters.Chapter One describes the interpreting task and the pre-interpretation preparations.Chapter Two introduces the interpreting process, including pre-interpreting,during-interpreting and post-interpreting.Chapter Three explores the Triangular Model of Interpretive Theory and the relationship between the Model and the interpreting practice.Chapter Four, from the perspective of the Triangular Model, elaborates on the specific interpreting strategies by case analyses. This part describes how the theory is applied in the interpreting practice in detail at both lexical level and syntactical level.Chapter Five is conclusion which summarizes the problems in the interpreting. The interpreter makes a self-evaluation as well and hopes this report could improve her interpreting skills and provide other interpreters with useful suggestions.
