This is a report of the E-C translation practice of a novel.The selected novel The Dragon Hunter and the Mage is a magic work of children’s literature,which is also one of the pentalogy novels written by V.R.Cardoso,a Portuguese writer.It’s the translation project offered by Internet platform Fiberead LLC.The story mainly happens in the ARRELINE EMPIRE.It is about the fight with wit and courage between the two brothers and the emperor of the Empire.This novel depicts the troubles and gains during the growing-up period of the children in the aspect of warm brotherhood,strong family affection to muddled love,and it is a classic children’s literature work.The whole book consists of 34 chapters with 150,297 words.The language difficulties are proper with too many long sentences,and obvious colloquial characteristics.Besides,there are a lot of magic terms and imperial names.To better achieve the purpose of serving children,the author is child-oriented,appreciating the original text and translating under the guidance of skopos theory,striving to present literary works with vivid images,concise language,beautiful rhythm,and interests to the little readers.With the guidance of coherence rule,the author uses reduplication,interjection and onomatopoeia in the translation to make it full of rhythmic beauty and rhythm sensation.By splitting the long sentences into short ones,and lexical conversion to enhance the consistency and readability of translation.Under the guidance of the skopos and fidelity rules,by using skills such as literal translation,free translation and addition etc.,plus the translation strategy such as using four-character expressions and domestication,the author makes the translation conform to Chinese children’s reading habit both in language and culture so that they could obtain knowledge through reading and have fun while taking spiritual nutrients.The author hopes to combine the translation theories with the practice closely during the translation of this novel.The report tells us the significance of skopos theory on translation of children’s literature through the analysis of specific cases,which provides some practical solutions to the difficulties encountered by people in the translation of children’s literature and thus makes great contributions to the development of children’s cause in our country.
