On Political Discourse Innovation And Its Translation Acceptability

With the continuous enhancement of China's comprehensive strength and the continuous improvement of international status,China has attracted more and more attention from people all over the world.In the new era,China not only needs“going global”,but also tries to build up a good national image in the world.In order to achieve this goal,the publicity effect and influence must be improved and strengthened.As an effective way to get to know Chinese current situation,the publicity of political discourse is especially important for international communication.Therefore,the translation of political discourse plays a vital role in the establishment of the national image.The report addressed by the General Secretary of the Communist Party of China Xi at the nineteenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China?CPC?not only has a good guiding effect on domestic politics,but also provides excellent materials for the world to know and understand China.As a programmatic document,the 19^thh National Congress Report makes a comprehensive interpretation and forecast of China?s current situation.It attracts people?s attention to the current affairs and polices of China and makes it easier to be understood and accepted.The socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era is known to the world.In addition,it is the first time to have foreign experts participate in the translation of the report of 19^th CPC National Congress.In that case,the translation study on the English version of this report has a guiding role for Chinese publicity of political discourse.In view of this,an investigation of the acceptability of the English version of the report has been conducted in this thesis.With the theoretical support of functional translation theory,the study results have been further analyzed so as to enlighten the translation of political discourse.This thesis is composed of six chapters.The research background,objective and methods and structure of this thesis are introduced in the first chapter.And the second part presents the literature review of current domestic and foreign studies on political discourse and its translation.Theoretical framework is illustrated in the third chapter to provide theoretical support for the analysis of the text.Functional theories and reader awareness have been introduced in this part.Based on the basic introduction of the 19^th National Congress Report,the innovation of political discourse in the report is analyzed in details.Taking the 19^th report for an example,the fifth chapter focuses on the acceptability investigation of translation of Chinese political discourse through questionnaire and follow-up interview.With the theoretical support of functional translation theory,reader awareness and reception theory,the translation of discourse innovations in the English version of 19^th report has been further explored in details.The last chapter is the overview of whole thesis,including research findings and some limitations.Taking the English version of the report delivered at the 19^th CPC National Congress for example,through an analysis of the innovation of political discourse and the investigation of translation acceptability,this thesis aims to reveal the effective guidance of functional translation theory for the translation of political discourse and the importance of reader awareness to improve translation acceptability.
