Research On The Reader-Oriented Translation Strategies And Acceptability Of Political Documents

With the improvement of China’s overall national strength and international status,the international community is eager to have a comprehensive understanding of China’s current situation and future development trends.In order to create a favorable international environment conducive to China’s development,we need to communicate with the international community more proactively and guide international public opinion to develop in a positive direction.Therefore,the importance of translating the political documents accurately and comprehensively is self-evident.The Communist Party of China（hereinafter referred to as CPC）document is an important part of political documents,which covers all aspects of political,economic,social development.The translation of CPC documents plays an important role in disseminating the experience of governing the country and policies and principles in the field of national political life.The Report of 19^th CPC National Congress belongs to the political documents of the CPC National Congress.It is a commitment and call made by General Secretary Xi Jinping on behalf of the Communist Party of China to the people of the whole country.Moreover,it has special historical significance and international influence as socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era and China is increasingly moving closer to the center stage.Undoubtedly,the Report of the 19^th CPC National Congress is an important political document for the foreign audience to know more about China.Its translation quality will directly affect the acceptability of the political document abroad.Therefore,in-depth study of the translation of the 19^th CPC National Congress document has theoretical guidance and practical reference for translation study.This thesis is divided into six chapters:The first chapter introduces the research background,objectives,significance,methods and framework of the thesis.The second chapter presents the literature review both on the translation of international communication and translation’s acceptability at home and abroad.The third chapter mainly outlines the theoretical framework of functionalist theory and reader’s reception theory.The forth chapter illustrates with examples the translation strategies applied in the translation of 19^th CPC National Congress document from the lexical,syntactical and textual levels.The fifth chapter,based on the translation of the Report of the 19^th CPC National Congress,studies the translation’s acceptability of some core concepts by foreign readers through a questionnaire,and analyses the survey findings from the perspectives of authenticity,comprehensibility and culture of language and reveals the factors affecting the translation’s acceptability of political documents.The last chapter is the summary of the whole thesis and points out the shortcomings.Based on the translation of the 19^th CPC National Congress document,this thesis aims to reveal the effective guidance of functional translation theory in the translation strategy of political documents and the significance of reception theory in improving the translation’s acceptability through the investigation of the translation acceptability.
