The participles in the author's translation of the fourth chapter in Trying not to Try are taken as the research subject in this report. In this report, the author analyzed and discussed the translation methods of the participles. In this report, the author analyzed the difficulty of participles' translation caused by different structures in English and Chinese under the guidance of functional equivalence theory, aiming to solve the problems of low readability and acceptability in translation. The two forms of participles are present participle and past participle. The translation methods and techniques are various when they are in different positions. The author applied the translation methods of omission, conversion and preposition after extracting the participles in the source text.By instance analysis,it can be concluded below:(1)when the participles serve as attribute in the sentence and the meanings are relatively simple, the preposition method is generally adopted;(2)when the participles serve as object complement in the form of past participle, the omission translation method is generally adopted to make the sentence structure clear and the main parts compact;(3)the conversion method is usually adopted to change the participles' part of speech to make the translation readable and acceptable when the participles play the role of adverbial in the sentence.
