This report is based on the book Strategic Copywriting:How to Create Effective Advertising.(2nd Edition,2015)by Edd Applegate. It is a business book featuring a vast array of terminology, complicated sentence structure, logical statement, and clear expression.Based on Eugene Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory, this report researches the translation methods of English participles.Participle phrases are one of the most complicated sentence components in English. They are multi-functional and have research value.By practice, the author summarized several translation methods including conversion,pre-positioning,splitting,and omission, which are employed to reach the functional equivalence stylistically and syntactically, that is,using concise and coherent language to make it consistent with the original meaning and spirit and to make the readers respond the same as the original readers’ response to the original text.In the translation process, the author broke the original sentence structure and used effective methods to convert them into idiomatic Chinese and summarized the translation methods of participles with the aim of discussing how to translate English participles into Chinese so that they can conform to Chinese expression habits, which has the referential value to some extent.
