A Comparative Analysis Of Politeness In Kyrgyz And Chinese Languages

The etiquette culture exists in the human social life.It is an important symbol of human civilization.The polite language plays an important and interpersonal exchange part in our daily communication.Since ancient times,China has always been considered as a country with humble and polite manners.Therefore,in the process of learning Chinese,one must also understand Chinese polite language.This thesis analyzes the similarities and differences of euphemism in Kyrgyz and Chinese languages.The similarities mainly exist in greetings.When Kyrgyz and Chinese people greet each other,they are used to ask some personal questions like the other person's plans,whereabouts and the family situation.The differences are mainly in wishing,salutation and thanking.Chinese people for example do not often thank their relatives or friends,whereas Kyrgyz people intend to use it with family or friends as much as it is needed.This thesis also explores culture's influence on language.Its affect is mainly manifested in customs,values and national mentality.This thesis is divided into four chapters including five various aspects of courtesy: greetings,salutation,thanking,wishing,and apologies.It also discusses comparative analysis of polite language between Chinese and Kyrgyz.By investigating the Kyrgyz student's knowledge of using Chinese euphemism,this thesis analyzes the deviations and difficulties they face when acquiring Chinese polite language.The main difficulty lies in salutation and apologies,as many student's Chinese level is different,and many of them are not familiar with Chinese polite culture,they could not answer correctly to most of the questions.In order to help Kyrgyz students to better understand Chinese euphemism,we suggest that teachers give more lessons on the characteristics and differences of Chinese culture.Students can also read more ancient books in Chinese,for reading helps to learn more about the euphemism.But except for just reading,the most efficient way is to be able to apply the knowledge in practice.
