A Report On The Simulated Interpretation Of "Everything You Always Wanted To Know About Court Interpreting"

Simultaneous interpretation is a way of translation that the interpreter continuously renders the message in the target-language from the source language without interrupting the speaker.There will be specialized device provided for interpreters.Because of its high efficiency,it is widely used in international conferences.This interpretation practice report is based on my simultaneous interpretation of an English talk"Everything You Always Wanted to Know about Court Interpreting" given by Holly Mikkelson in Glendon College.The speaker of the talk is an old woman "whose speed is slow and sometimes she paused and repeated.And the talk was all about court interpreting,such as "What do court interpreters do?" "Where do court interpreters do?""The demands on interpreters" "The ethic codes of interpreters" which involving many legal terms.This report is based on the intserpretive theory and borrows Gile's Interpretation Comprehension Equation and Effort Models,regarding "conprehensive,accuracy,fluent" as the standard measures which are from Baogang's interpretation studies to analyze the typical cases.The method"punctuation,supplement conversion" are used in.this practice while other problems also arise,such as "misinterpretation,omission,hesitation" and so on.One reason of these problems is lack of linguistic knowledge.Another reason is that the interpretive theory is not fully usedThrough this practice,the author realizes that some interpreting skills are necessary in simultaneous interpretation,such as punctuation,conversion,repetition,omission,induction.And an excellent inteapreter should be good at both two languages,try to keep calm when some errors occur in the process.Moreover,it is important to make good preparations before interpreting and be familiar with these terms which can save more time to think the whole sentence.
