Analysis Of Omission And Misinterpretation Of Last Sentences In Japanese-Chinese Consecutive Interpreting

The most important principle in consecutive interpretation is whether an interp reter delivered the message as faithfully and accurately as possible in the target la nguage.This thesis takes the interview of theater director Hiroshi KOIKE as an e xample,discussing the reasons of the omission and misinterpretation at the end of the paragraphs and the solution to solve the problems.Omission and misinterpretat ion at the end of paragraphs occurred due to the problems of listening and Analy sis part(slow response to words,sentence structure,and logic of the paragraph,a nd the lack of awareness of the purpose of communication)as well as the unbala nce between multiple efforts(listening and note-taking;note-taking and short term memory).In conclusion,three suggestions are given for better performance in inte rview-based interpreting:1.Pay close attention to the speaker’s language habits an d thinking patterns;2.Understand the purpose of communication and be question-oriented when interpreting;3.Carefully balance energy based on understanding an d enforce retelling and retention practice if possible.
