An Analysis Of The Vocabulary Of Chinese Graded Readers:Chinese Read Every Day & Chinese Breeze

At the beginning of this century,the graded readers of Chinese as a second language began to rise.But until now,it is still lack of study on the concept of the graded readers of Chinese as a second language in domestic,and so the corpus studying does.All of these directly lead to the lack of the publishing market of graded readers.Therefore,both sets of the books “Chinese Read Every Day” and “Chinese Breeze” are the graded readers of Chinese as a second language with high quality and good response;in addition,they represent the average of redaction of the graded readers at present.Based on a brief introduction of the concept and the development of Graded Readers and concreted from four aspects of the total vocabulary,vocabulary level,new words repetition rate and the annotation of new words,this thesis makes a comprehensive statistics and analysis of two sets of all books that total words is 500,which aims to explore the possibility of redacting vocabulary of the graded readers published in domestic and tries to compare two sets of books to write in the terms of the pros and cons.Research findings:(1)“Chinese Read Every Day” is better than “Chinese Breeze” in the aspect of setting up total vocabulary and vocabulary level controlling.It's easier to read than “Chinese Breeze”.(2)The reproduction rate of the new words in “Chinese Breeze” is higher than that of Chinese Read Every Day”,the students who read that book is easy to learn the new words.However,both sets of graded readers need to be strengthened in the annotation of new words.Based on the researching results of two sets of books,this paper makes some reference suggestions.
