Researches on translation teaching studies are increasing both at home and abroad after entering the new millennium, however, the researches on the evolution of translation teaching studies are limited, especially those adopting scientific and objective research tools.Against this background, the theories and methods of scientometrics are applied, and this study has conducted knowledge mapping analysis on the translation teaching researches published on 14 CSSCI journals and 13 SSCI and A&HCI journals during 2000-2017 with the application of Cite Space. We attempt to probe into the evolutions of translation teaching studies at home and abroad and to make comparison between them so as to illuminate the future studies. This thesis intends to answer the following research questions:(1)What are the status quo of translation teaching studies at home and abroad in terms of the time distribution, periodical distribution and author distribution?(2)How have the translation teaching studies at home and abroad evolved since 2000 in terms of the intellectual base and the research hot topics?(3)What are the similarities and differences between the evolutions of translation teaching studies at home and abroad in the new millennium? The findings are summarized as follows:(1)Domestic translation teaching studies in the new millennium undergo three stages: the accumulation stage(2000-2002),the rapid development stage(2003-2011)and the stable development stage(2012 to the present).Translation studies journals are the main battlefield for translation teaching studies, and 4 foreign language journals also show their great interests.Researchers from colleges or universities are the main research force, and 33 researchers are defined as the core authors who are centered in first-tier cities.International studies also go through three stages: the accumulation stage(2000-2004),the fluctuant growth stage(2005-2010)and the rapid development stage(2011 to the present). The international studies are concentrated on four translation studies journals.22 researchers from 7 countries are defined as core authors.(2)The evolution path of domestic studies is: “non-literary translation”,“syllabus”,“discovery learning”? “translation competence”,“constructivism”,“eco-translatology”,“knowledge migration”,“terminological training”? “information technology”,“network technology”.As for the evolution of research hot topics, the training of doctoral students and translation theory & practice are the main topics of the accumulation stage. After entering the rapid development stage, the researches became much more diverse. The setup and training of MTI became a hot topic;researches on interpreter training sprang up;theories of constructivism, skopos theory, translation competence model, etc.became popular;the application of CAT and corpus also drew researchers' attention. All these hot topics are keeping their heat during the third stage. At the same time, studies related to the country policies and social needs are emerging. The evolution path of international studies is: “collaborative group”? “translation competence”,“translation prototype”,“text analysis”? “intercultural competence”,“dynamic systems theory”,“cultural diversity”,“translation task and project based approach”,“situated learning”,“legal translation”.As for the evolution of research hot topics, conference interpreting, translation competence, quality assessment are the main topics of the accumulation stage. At the second stage, the heat of the last stage's main topics is lasting. At the same time, researches on doctoral training, virtual classroom and parallel corpora sprang up.And at the rapid development stage, interpreting, translation competence, quality assessment still keep their heats.Meanwhile, the research topics became much more diverse: researches on interpretation, translation competence and quality assessment have been further developed and enriched;newly research topics such as ethics,anxiety,self-efficacy,metacognitive questionnaire, postediting, etc.are springing up.(3)(a)Similarities: growth and development of translation teaching studies are the tendency;developed regions and cities are the main research base;university or college teachers and students are the main research force;periodicals on translation studies are the main arena;both domestic studies and international studies went through or are going through a transition from the teaching of knowledge and skills to the training of translation competence;during their evolutions, the research topics of both are becoming more and more diverse.(b)Differences: with the flourishing growth of translation teaching studies,an international journal specialized in translator training was established while there is no such a journal in China. To the same theories or similar researches, the absorption of domestic researches lag behind 6 to 10 years and the researches are less lasting than the international studies;the emphases of the research topics are different between studies at home and abroad.(c)Interactions: On the one hand, the influence of the international studies on domestic studies is expanding. On the other hand, domestic researches are converging with the international studies and the voice of Chinese researchers on the international stage is getting louder.China now ranks the second among all the regions conducting translation teaching studies published on international journal during the past 17 years.
