This thesis is based on the study of Shen Congwen in the period of Neijiang. The paper studies these questions--his mental state, novel creation,letter-writing,ideological transformation and selection of cultural relics--under the background of land reform. It focuses on analysis of the significant influence of land reform on his spiritual transformation and the exploration of the literature, revealing the influence of this turning point to his later life.Around the founding of the People’s Republic of China,Shen Congwen suffered from spiritual confusion due to historical changes and heavy pressure.Especially in March 1949,he was plunged into a great sense of fear and isolation and eventually chose to end his life. After being rescued,Shen Congwen gradually calmed down, actively immersed himself in a new life, and participated in the work of the land reform, which achieved his inner peace in the period of Neijiang. There are two reasons for the spiritual breakthrough. One was the acceptance and encouragement of Ding Ling, who is the new regime represent. The other was the internal self-adjustment of individuals,Living in the small village with natural scenery in the south of Sichuan,Shen Congwen,in the agitated and profound work of the land reform, built the confidence of life and creation in the new era. While working in the land reform,he wanted to rewrite for the new era.In the period of Neijiang,he created two novels:The Old Comrade and Squadron Department-Miscellaneous Notes of Land Conversion in the South of Sichuan of Land Reform, which both entrusted the writer with new ideas and styles, and expressed the praise of the new era,but it was an un successful attempt. There are some reasons for the predicament.Judging from the current situation of the literary world, the 40’s center writers represented by Shen Congwen had been marginalized and cannot really enter the center of the new literary world. From the point of view of literature, there is a certain degree of dislocation between Shen Congwen’s personal view of literature and the requirements of the literary requirements of the times.Under the new historical conditions,Shen Congwen cannot find a balance between the two. From the point view of creative practice,Shen Congwen could not hold the key points of his works well. His articles had problems in language, subject, content and characters. In the period of Neijiang,Shen Congwen is still writing a large number of letters, and placed literary ideals in the expression of private space. The character of literature can be seen in his letter writing. He still maintained the literary acumen and obtained deeper personal understanding and a wider horizon of life.Of course,Shen Congwen’s correspondence between the letter and reality has maintained a certain degree of tension, which conveys more complicated information and contains the serious exploration of intellectuals like Shen Congwen. The land reform has brought tremendous influence to Shen Congwen.Ideologically,Shen Congwen completed his own breakthrough in his personal practice of the land reform work, and changed his early distrustful attitude towards politics, then affirmed and praised the new regime, and his attitude towards literature and the attitude of intellectuals also changed from the previous period. In addition, the setbacks in the novel’s attempts during the land reforms have brought Shen Congwen closer to the study of cultural relics. The selection of cultural relics is the best way for Shen Congwen to preserve his talent in the new era.In the comer of the new era,Shen Congwen exerts his talents and promotes the progress and development of the country in another field. |
