The early days of new China is a supremely important and special period for Shen Congwen, At the transition period, the fate of Shen Congwen also takes a great change. His minds and choices are different from those before the establishment of new China. However, the academic circle has not paid much attention to the study of Shen Congwen in this turing period. Although there are articles that explore into the issue, they only make superficial analysis. Therefore, research on Shen Congwen in this period is worthwhile making deeply. This paper deduces salvation, change of minds and irreformable litterateur's natural disposition of Shen Congwen from the perspective of letters at initial stage of new China. The first chapter explores into his salvation after suicide. The process of salvation is actual one that Shen Congwen accepts new political power and is melted into new society. The first section studies his attitudes about new political power. Shen Congwen's cooperation with new party is manifested by his active salvation. The second section explores the atonement minds during the process of salvation. The reason why he recovers from the self-destruction and melts into new era is his consciousness of atonement. Literature is the way that Shen Congwen makes atonement at the beginning of his new life. Rewriting literature works meeting demands of new era is the most convincing proof of his expiation. Although he strays from literary circle, literature is still his habitat for his soul which is longer ignored by researcher. The third section makes exploration into the meaning of his salvation. Salvation decides his attitudes about stepping into a new era. After this, he begins accepting new political power and starts his bumpy latter half of his life. The second chapter focuses on Shen Congwen's change of minds during the initial stage of new China. His change of minds is marked by two ideological reform movements. The first section focuses on the reason of his change of minds for the first time. The second section pays much attention to multiple reasons why Shen Congwen changes his minds and the difficulty and complexity of his soul in the transformation process. The third chapter is about litterateur's natural disposition manifested in the family letters. After Shen Congwen changes his job at early days of new China, letters become the place for his talents to be displayed. The unique minds manifested in his family letters show to people that his former minds cannot be transformed. Letters at land reform period show unique characteristics. Most letters are long and narrated in detail. Shen Congwen writes letters at this time to find back his writing ability, so what he writes is all about his return to the literary circle. The first section is about emotion. The several aspects Shen Congwen pay attention to in family letters show that emphasis on emotion is not only the attitude of Shen Congwen, but also the autonomous aesthetic pursuit. The second section is about resting place for Shen Congwen's consciousness. He pays attention to people and things in his letters at first, but at last, to the great power of nature. This paper deduces that under the restriction of consciousness, thinking and creating spirit still exist in personal writing space.
