Buddhist character is an important character type of Chinese fictions in the 20th century.The analysis on its evolution from the persperctive of value orientation,shaping technique and writing background will help us historically grasp the attitude of the authors to the social value of Buddhism and the social role of the Buddhists,systematically discuss the evolution influence of the relations between Buddhism and secularity on fiction creating and scientifically study the origin of the present buddhist character shaping.However,due to the marginal position in literature history,the research on the character type is still destitute.Therefore,based on summarizing the research status,the research field is laid out from the persperctive of time,space,type and position.And the combination of aesthetic view and historiographical view and the combination of externanl research and internal research is taken as the research principles.By means of comprehensively analysizing the influence of politics,market,religion and arts on the buddhist character shaping of the authors and their autonomy and creativity and dynamically grasping the universality and individuality of buddhist character shaping in different periods,this paper aims to find the relition evolution and the revelant reasons that influences the buddhist character shaping from the perspective of structure.lt is proposed that there are five stages in the evolution and the characteristics are deeply discussed.Rudiment of modern buddhist character in late Qing Dynasty and early Republic of China.Under the background that the classic buddhist character shaping fell in the bottleneck state,some authors began to make exploration on the modern buddhist character shaping.They mainly showed the influence of the key words including democracy,schence,freedom and equlity on the thoughts and behavior of the buddhist characters in the context of politics,society and love.Different representation of belief identification dilemma in 1920s and 1930s.Due to the influence of Humalist Literature,some authors intervened the contradiction of social identity and spiritual belief of the buddhist characters in the context of politics,villages and culture that the intellectuals paid close attention to.At the meantime,some buddhist authors showed the belief problems of the buddhist characters from the internal perspective.Class problems behind contradict between selfishness and altruism in 1940s.The total resistance against Japanese aggression deepened the discussion on for individuals and for public in literature.And the buddhist character shaping had difference in selfishness stress and altruism stress.The buddhist authors widened the knowledge on the selfishness and altruism.of the buddhist characters in the war from the internal perspective.Buddhist character shaping that inherits in retreat from 1950s to 1970s.Due to the influence of types of facors,great retreat happened to the buddhist character shaping.However,this character type that had a long history still had strong power.It developed the former achievements in the fictions based on historical narration,national opera adaption and minority subjects and made new creation.Contradiction and Integration on urging secularity and urging Buddhism in 1980s and 1990s,With the development of the religional policy reform and the whole literary creation,the buddhist character shaping changed from desolation to recovery and prosperousness.In this.period,the buddhist character shaping mainly focused on the relation between Buddhism and secularity.Some authors emphasized on urging secularity,and some emphasized on urging the Buddhism.Only a few authors crossed the contradict and made individual exploration on the relations.
