A Study Of The Interpretation Practicum On The 2017 NDRC Seminar On Climate Change

From June to July 2017,the author participated in the 2017 Seminar on Climate Change and Green Low-Carbon Development held by the NDRC as an English interpreter.In retrospect of this one-month project,this thesis analyzes the interpretation practice and puts forward solutions to problems in the process based on Li Changshuan's practical framework of "Understanding,Memorizing,Expression and Emergency Response"(UMEER),which is proposed in his book Meaning and Expression:Annotated Texts in English/Chinese Interpretation.This thesis consists of five parts.Chapter one gives a brief introduction to the interpretation task.Chapter two describes the main work in different phases of the task.As the main body of the paper,Chapter three introduces the UMEER Practical Framework.Based on the framework,the author's own reflection and other people's feedback,this chapter analyzes the author's problems in real context in terms of understanding,memorizing,expression and emergency response,and comes up with corresponding solutions.Chapter four summarizes what the author has learned in the project and looks forward to the future.The final part includes a glossary of energy terms accumulated in this project for further reference.At the end of this thesis,the author summarizes her major experience from this program,including expanding the breadth and depth of knowledge,reducing dependence on notes,and continuously increasing English input.This thesis could not only serve as a reference for other master's thesis on interpretation practice,but also provide advice for those who want to engage in interpretation.
