With the rapid development of global economies, interpretation has become an indispensable part of cross-cultural communication, including economic, political as well as cultural communications.Besides, there are many occasions where interpreters are needed, such as meetings, lectures and training programs. As a complex cognitive activity, interpretation requires an interpreter to be able to analyze, memorize and take notes of a specific speech at the same time, and then interpret the speech into a language that the audiences can understand. This requires that an interpreter should not only have skillful bilingual skills but also comprehensive knowledge.Schema,as one of the cognitive concepts, originally means all well-organized knowledge in human brain. So far, schema is widely used in both psychology and second language acquisition. This article is a case study of a consecutive interpretations completed by author himself in which the author tries to find the effect of preparation on the quality of interpretation from the perspective of Schema Theory. The author analyzed the preparation according to the categories of Schema Theory, and made a comparison between the parts of the interpretation which the author did prepare for,and the other parts that the author's preparation did not cover. The author believes that a well-prepared interpreter is able to cope with most of the difficulties occurring in any interpretation. Thus,a full preparations before interpretation can make up for the lack in language skills. As a qualified interpreter, one has to improve his language skill while accumulating more comprehensive knowledge so as to ensure the success in any interpretation.
