Research On Webisodes In The New Media Environment

The webisode is an emerging art form of the online video industry in recent years.In 2012,"The 'Grass Root' Men" from Souhu brings the webisode to top trending in China.In the following year,Youku and Wanhe Tianyi jointly produced the "never thought",which is considered a milestone work.Thereafter,this emerging art style has gained wide attention.With high hits and hot topics created,video websites gradually consider webisode as the strategic focus of a development breakthrough.This makes webisode production the hottest art phenomenon,and the great popularity results from cultural and industrial elements of social development complicity.Subsequently,the year 2014 marks the beginning of webisode industry,when the professionalization and exquisitization have become the trend of its development.Although the art style of webisode is somewhat similar to the traditional drama,as an art form for new Internet media,it has completely different audience and creative space as compared to traditional drama.Therefore,webisode expresses new attempts on the creative process,image style,theme,aesthetic and cultural construction.This paper intends to study webisode in 3 aspects under the background of new media:first,we provide in-depth analysis of the reason behind the rising popularity of webisode,in order to better understand the development of the cultural background and the practical needs;second,we reveal the unique pursuit of its creation,based on the characteristics of new media;finally,as the network made drama is not only an art but also a new form of culture,any kind of cultural product contains various aesthetic forms and functions,and therefore we interpret the aesthetic and cultural aspect of webisode in the last section.
