Sibling Relationship Of College Students And Their Influence On Mentality

Objective: To explore the situation and influencing factors of the sibling relationship among college students in Wuhu city,to know their impact on psychological status,and to provide evidence for improving the mental health of college students.Methods: Cluster sampling method was used to survey college students in Wuhu City,Anhui Province.The survey included the general characteristics,the siblling relationship and the psychological characteristics such as security.Descriptive statistical methods were conducted to describe the situation of sibling relationships among college students,to compare the characteristics of sibling relationships with different demographic characteristics and to analyze the correlation between sibling relation-ships and their security,interpersonal trust and self-esteem was.Result: A total of 3693 people were investigated in this study,there are 2402 non-only children(65.0%).Non-only children(598)accounted for 49.6% of all male students(1205),and non-only children(1804)accounted for 72.5% of all female students(2488).The following are the results of the study of non-only children.Among the family seats,11.2%were in cities(270),21.3% in county towns(512),and 67.4% in rural areas(1620).The parental occupations are mainly freelancers and farmers.The father's education level is mainly junior high school,and the mother's education level is mainly elementary school and junior high school.Regarding the sibling structure,from the number of compatriots,there are at least two and at most six,mainly two,with 1899(79.1)%;from the point of birth sequence,the maximum number of subjects was the first child(eldest child),and theminimum was fifth child.The main one was a child,with 1431(59.6%);from the age difference,the minimum difference is 0 years old,the maximum difference is 19 years old,mainly 3<gap<6,there are 921 people(38.3%);judging from the relationship,there are mainly siblings,with 846(35.2%).The scores of sibling relationships in the three dimensions of sibling intimacy,sibling conflict and sibling competition were: 84.00±0.302,26.65±0.128,and 2.42±0.070.In the intimacy dimension of the siblings,the differences in scores of gender,father's education,age difference and relationship combinations were statistically significant(P<0.05).Females scored higher than boys,fathers' college education scores or above had the highest scores,and illiteracy scores had the lowest scores.The age gap between the ages of 3 and 6 is the highest,gaps greater than 9 years old,the sister combination has the highest score,and the brother-sister group has the lowest score;in the dimension of sibling conflict,differences in scores of gender,mother's education,birth sequence and relationship were statistically significant(P<0.05),boys score higher than girls,and mothers have the highest scores in primary school education,the lowest scores in high school,the highest score in one child,the lowest score in five children,and the highest score in the age gap between 0 and 3 years old,with the lowest score being greater than the 9-year-old score.The score of the brother group is the highest,and the score of the brother-sister group is the lowest;in the competitor's competition dimension,the differences in the scores of different relationship combinations were statistically significant(P<0.05),The scores of the brother-sister combination were the highest,and the scores of the sister combination were the lowest.In the correlation analysis of age,family location,and sibling structure variables and individual sense of security,in the dimension of interpersonal security,only gender and compatriots were negatively related(P<0.05),and the age difference was positively correlated with it(P<0.05),in determining the sense of control dimension,only the location of the family was positively correlated with its presence(P<0.05).In the correlation analysis between the dimensions of the sibling relationship and the sense of security,the sibling intimacy was positively correlated with the sense of interpersonal security,the sense of control,and the total score of security(P<0.01),the sibling conflict,sibling competition,and interpersonal security were determined.The control scores and total scores of security scores all showed a significantnegative correlation(P<0.01).In the multiple linear regression analysis of various dimensions of security,the factors affecting the sense of interpersonal security(arranged from strong to weak):sibling intimacy,sibling conflict,gender,sibling competition,number of compatriots and age difference;determine the controlling factors(arranged from strong to weak):sibling intimacy,sibling conflict,sibling competition and home location;influencing factors of the sense of security(arranged from strong to weak):sibling intimacy,sibling conflict and sibling competition.There was no correlation between gender,family location,number of compatriots,birth sequence,age difference,type of combination,and interpersonal trust in the correlation analysis of variables such as age,family location,sibling structure,and interpersonal trust(P>0.05).In the correlation analysis of sibling relationships and interpersonal trust,sibling intimacy and interpersonal trust were significantly negatively correlated(P<0.01),and sibling conflict,sibling competition and interpersonal trust were significantly positively correlated(P<0.01).In the multivariate linear regression analysis of interpersonal trust,the influencing factors of interpersonal trust(arranged from strong to weak): sibling intimacy,sibling conflict and sibling competition.There was no correlation between gender,family location,number of compatriots,birth sequence,combination type,age difference,and self-esteem in the correlation analysis of age,home location,sibling structure,and individual self-esteem(P>0.05).In the correlation analysis of sibling relationship and self-esteem,there was a significant positive correlation between sibling intimacy and self-esteem(P<0.01),and significant negative correlation between sibling conflict,sibling rivalry and self-esteem(P<0.01).In the multivariate linear regression analysis of self-esteem,the influencing factors of self-esteem(arranged from strong to weak): sibling intimacy and sibling conflict.Conclusion: In this study,More than 65% of college students are non-only children,mostly from rural areas.About 80% is a second-child family,and about 40% of the age difference is between 3 and 6 years old,mostly dominated by siblings.The social and related departments should strengthen their concern and study on the relationship between their sibs.The quality of their relationship with their sons is related to the individual's sex and birth sequence,the educational level of their parents,the age difference of their sibs and the combination of their relations.Parents should improve their own quality and changetheir educational concepts and parenting styles,creating a good social and family atmosphere and forming a harmonious and friendly relationship between compatriots.Sibling relations are closely related to individual's sense of security,interpersonal trust and self-esteem,and research on the related influences should be strengthened.
