The Relationship Between First-born Children’s Empathy And Sibling Relationship:the Regulating Effect Of Parents’ Marital Relationship And The Study Of Sibling Relationship Intervention

With the implementation of the two-child policy,non one-child families showed a growth trend.The sibling relationship has been a new hot spot,and it is the most everlasting relationship in one’s life,which could influence the development and the future of individuals.Therefore this study disscussed the relationship between empathy(which may effect the sibling relationship)and marital relationship,try to learn the internal mechanism of sibling relationship and marital relationship.Finally we hope to make intervention plan for sibling relationship as practical guidance.In study one,we used the questionnaire to test empathy and sibling relationship of 198 students from grade four to grade six,and then,we tested regulating effect of their parents’ marital quality.The results of this study are as follows:(1)Students’ sibling warmth and sibling conflict as well as their sibling relationship have no significant difference in gender.(2)Empathy can significantly predict the positive effect of sibling warmth,the higher the score of empathy,the higher the score of sibling warmth,the closer the siblings;Empathy can significantly predict the negative effect of sibling conflict,the higher the score of empathy,the lower the score of conflict,and there is less conflict between siblings;Empathy can significantly predict the positive effect of sibling relationship,the higher the score of empathy,the higher the score of sibling relationship,which means high quality of sibling relationship;Parents’ marital quality can significantly predict the positive effect of sibling warmth,the higher the score of parents’ marital quality,the higher the score of sibling warmth.(3)Parents marriage plays an regulating role between empathy and sibling relationship,when parents’ marital relationship were poor,and in low scores,empathy’s prediction function to siblings relationship is not significant;When parents’ marriage quality is better,and in higher scores,empathy can significantly predict predictive sibling relationship.(4)Parents marital relationship has no regulation effect between empathy and sibling conflict,regardless of their parents’ marital relationship,Empathy can significantly and negatively predict the sibling conflict;marital relationship of parents has no regulating effect in the relationship between empathy and their sibling relationship scores,regardless of their parents’ marital relationship quality,empathy can significantly and positively predict their sibling relationship.In study two,on the basis of the conclusion in study one,we made a concrete plan of group counseling intervention with the use of metacognitive intervention technology.We choosed 20 children whose score of sibling warmth were lower than average and their sibling conflict scores were higher than average.Then they were randomly divided into experimental group and control group by means of independent sample design.The metacognitive intervention lasted 11 weeks.Then we used the sibling relationship qustionnaire to test the effectiveness of this metacognitive intervention plan.Finally,we hope to provide practive guidance for students’ education in school and family.The results are as follows:(1)The group counseling metacognitive intervention is effective,compared with the pretesting,the score of sibling warmth of posttesting in experimental group is significantly higher and the score of sibling conflict is significantly lower,sibling relationship score were also significantly higher.(2)The effectiveness of metacognitive intervention is continues.Through delay measurement,scores of sibling warmth and sibling relationship in experimental group are still have no significantly difference with scores after intervention.There is still effectiveness in this metacognitive intervention after two weeks.
