This report can be taken as an analysis of the simulated simultaneous interpretation of the BBC documentary "The Real Future of Earth",which focuses on analyzing the difficulties in the simultaneous interpretation and putting forward the corresponding strategies on how to solve the problems.Through analyzing the project, the interpreter concentrated on improving the interpretation level."The Real Future of Earth" is a scientific documentary which was produced by the BBC in June 2017.In order to solve the issue of energy scarcity, the film puts forward three different solutions to this situation. The language style of this documentary is solemn and humorous, much elegant and close to life.Due to the emphasis on popularizing science,it needs to elaborate a large number of scientific principles,so the long complex sentences appear very frequently in this documentary. It is extremely crucial that the interpreter encountered a large number of subordinate clauses in the interpreting practice. For English speakers, using subordinate clauses is conducive to transmit the rich semantic information as well as improving the efficiency of communicating with the audience. But for interpreters,it increases the pressure on information transformation. In Chinese language, subordinate clauses which indicate modification and explanation are generally located in front of the core word;while,in English, these subordinate clauses are usually placed behind the core word.Owning to this language difference between English and Chinese,it is difficult for interpreters to interpret the source language with its syntactic order simultaneously. In addition, there are so many complex compound subordinate clauses appeared in this documentary, while English is a formal language that pays attention to the grammatical structure. How to sort out its complicated logical relations in a short period of time is a challenge for interpreters.Summarizing the difficulties in the interpreting practice: first, the syntactic structure of Chinese and English is different which brings out the difficulty in converting the word order;second, the content of the subordinate clauses is rich, which increases the pressureon interpretation. This interpretation report discussed on these two issues and focused on how to solve the difficulties of the subordinate clauses in the interpretation practice.According to the principle of "Syntactic Linearity" in the simultaneous interpretation, the interpreter proposes segmentation, supplementation and conversion methods to solve the above difficulties. These three methods can effectively solve the difficulties of subordinate clauses in the practice of interpreting and promote the successful completion of the interpreter's practical task.Based on the principle of syntactic linearity theory, this report analyzes the simulated simultaneous interpretation of English to Chinese in the scientific documentary "The Real Future of Earth",and has a positive practical effect on enhancing the interpreter's own level of interpretation. At the same time, the interpreter sincerely hopes to provide the relative reference for the other interpreters.
