An Exploration Into The Translation Of Law Of The People's Republic Of China On Protection Of Disabled Persons

The Law of the People's Republic of China on Protection of Disabled Persons is considered one of China's basic laws adopted by the National People's Congress.Its English-version translation is of great significance to the undertakings of legal translation and foreign-related exchanges.However,the current translation of the Law carries some inaccuracies that would hinder foreigners' understanding on China's progress in this regard.Proceeding from the history of laws for people with disabilities in China,this paper shows a progress made in the field of legal translation by comparing the Law's two translations of difference years.At the same time,it comparatively draws on the expression of western laws to introduce advanced western philosophy of disability legislation,while borrowing linguistic patterns with an analysis on the social reflection behind distinct language phenomena.Furthermore,this paper points out some typical problems in the current translation of the Law through individual cases,referring to both the Law's title and clauses on the layers of words,sentences and textual level.And the paper has come up with a suggestion of solutions according to existing theoretical fruits in the field of legal translation,with a view to improving the English version and further revision of the Law of the People's Republic of China on Protection of Disabled Persons.
