As the Chinese writer Mo Yan has been awarded Nobel Prize in literature,Chinese writers begin to step onto the international stage gaining more attention.Speeches given by writers talking about their thinking and memories play an increasingly important role as they are good ways for the spreading of Chinese literature and culture in the world.However,we still cannot see much interpreting practice on these speeches on the Internet or media.One reason is that there is not enough support and promotion from government and market.At the same time,this kind of interpreting practice requires higher skill and literature quality on the interpreters.Such a dilemma that Chinese writers need to step onto the international stage to let the world know more about China while their speeches,even they do get the chance,are rarely interpreted highlights the necessity.This report is a summary and analysis of the interpreting practice of Mountains and Rivers of Literature by Chi Zijian at the 2015 Hong Kong Book Fair.Guided by interpretive theory,this report explored the characteristics of the speech and discussed the difficulties and techniques of the interpreting practicesInterpretive theory which originated from France focuses on the interpreting of meaning and process rather than just superficial equivalence and holds that “interpreting is just the interpreting of meaning,that is,interpreting is the interpreter's interpretation of the source text by means of linguistic codes and his won supplemental cognition.The interpreter should aim at achieving the equivalent effect or meaning instead of linguistic equivalence while the simultaneity and practicality of interpreting determines that interpreting is to convey information and meaning.Guided by interpretive theory,this report,based on reading a quantity of the writers' work and her experience and thinking,is a summary of the interpreting practice and it analyzed the linguistic feature of the source speech and checked the applicability of the translation methods in the hope of offering some reference for future speech interpretingThis report consists of seven parts.The first part is the instruction of the background,objective and significance of the interpreting practice.The second part introduces the interpreting process including the preparation,the problems encountered and the post-interpretation reflection.The third part is the literature review which summarizes existing researches on interpreting.The fourth part is the brief introduction of interpretive theory,it introduces the major views and its theoretical model.The fifth part is the language feature analysis of the speech Mountains and Rivers of Literature.The sixth part is the introduction of interpretation activity of the speech Mountains and Rivers of Literature.It discusses how to flexibly apply various interpreting techniques within the framework of Interpretive Theory.The last part is the summary of the activity.
