Idiom,as one of the most active and vivid words in modern Chinese vocabulary,turns out to be one important means of getting to know Chinese culture,values,social life and thinking way for foreign students,as well as the key point of expressing authentically for them.The structure of idiom is short and brief with accurate meaning,flexible usage and vivid image,which is favored by foreign students.However,it becomes one of the difficulties for teaching Chinese as a foreign language since the foreign students always misuse idioms.Referring to idiom standard from the Idiom Phrase Standard Dictionary by Li Xingjian,the thesis extracts 60 frequently-used idioms from such comprehensive books as Syllabus of Chinese Words and Characters,Chinese Spoken English Level Standard and Test Plan and The development of Chinese,and researches and analyzes them.Based on questionnaire result and corpora test,the thesis further analyzes the major cause of idiom mistakes by foreign students,studied their understanding of idiots from the angle of semantic transparency,and finally puts forward the idioms teaching methods for foreign students,which provides an effective way for foreign students to learn idioms.The thesis is divided into five sections.In the first section,the author mainly introduces the current research status of idioms,the research method,theoretical basis and corpus sources.The second section,the thesis extracts 60 frequently-used idioms from such comprehensive books as Syllabus of Chinese Words and Characters,Chinese Spoken English Level Standard and Test Plan and The development of Chinese,and researches and analyzes them in details regarding to the structural characteristics and using characteristics.In the third section,through the questionnaire analysis and corpus test,the author further gets to know more about foreign students' understanding and usage of the theory of cognitive linguistics,and hence delving into the impact that semantic transparency on foreign students' understanding of idioms.In the fourth section,on the basis of the thesis research,the author gives the teaching suggestion on textbooks,teachers and students combining with existingproblems in idioms teaching.Meanwhile,an idiom teaching combining with existing problems in the idioms teaching.Meanwhile,an idiom teaching plan is designed,aiming to promote the idioms teaching in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.In the fifth section,the conclusion presents the summary of the thesis.
