OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to observe the improvement of functional dyspepsia with anxiety and depression by using randomized and controlled design.By analyzing and comparing the changes of the total symptom score of functional dyspepsia and the self-rating depression scale and the self-rating anxiety scale before and after treatment,we can objectively evaluate the improvement of functional dyspepsia with anxiety and depression by acupuncture treatment in order to further clinical application and promotion.METHODS: Seventy patients with functional dyspepsia accompanied by mild to moderate anxiety and/or depression were enrolled according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria from Longhua Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from August 2017 to January 2019.A random number table was generated by the SPSS Version 21 software, and the cases were divided into acupuncture test group and acupuncture control group according to the order of treatment, each group containing 35 cases.Acupoints used for test group as following:Zhongwan(CV12),Tianshu(ST25,bilaterally),Zusanli(ST36,bilaterally),Neiguan(PC6,bilaterally),Baihui(GV20),Tai'chong(LR3,bilaterally).Acupuncture was carried out 3 times a week for 4 weeks.Duration of the treatment was 20 minutes. For control groups, the selection of control points was used as following: 1 body inch left to Zhongwan(CV12),1 body inch laterally next to Tianshu(ST25,bilaterally),1 body inch left to Zusanli(ST36,bilaterally),1 body inch ulnarly next to Neiguan(PC6,bilaterally),1body inch inclined 45 degrees to the upper left of Baihui(GV20),1 body inch inside to Tai'chong(LR3,bilaterally).Acupuncture was carried out 3 times a week for 4 weeks.Duration of the treatment was 20 minutes. In this study, functional dyspepsia total symptom score evaluation form and the Self-rating anxiety scale(SAS),Self-rating depression scale(SDS),was completed at 3-time sessions: baseline, after treatment, and 4 weeks after treatment. The differences between the groups before and after treatment and between the two groups were compared, and the results were analyzed by statistical software.RESULTS:(1)Among the 70 patients included,a total of 67 patients completed the study,33 were in the test group and 34 in the control group.(2)After treatment, the total symptom scores of functional dyspepsia were lower than those before treatment, and there was statistical difference(p<0.05).After treatment, the total symptom scores of functional dyspepsia between the two groups were significantly different(p<0.01).After treatment, the total clinical effective rate of improvement of functional dyspepsia symptoms between the two groups was 84.85% and 61.76%,and the difference was statistically significant(p<0.05).At the follow up of 4 weeks, the total effective rate offunctional dyspepsia improvement rose slightly, compared with those after treatment. And the difference was statistically significant(p<0.05),compared with baseline. At the follow up of 4 weeks, the total effective rate of functional dyspepsia improvement was69.70% and 44.12%,respectively.The difference was statistically significant(p <0.05).(3)The SAS scores of the two groups after treatment and follow-up were lower than those before treatment, and there was a statistically difference(p<0.05).After treatment and follow-up,the SAS scores between the two groups were statistically significant(p<0.01).(4)The SDS scores after treatment and follow-up were lower than those before treatment, and there was a statistically significant difference(p<0.05).After treatment and follow-up,the SDS scores between the two groups were statistically significant(p<0.01).Conclusion: The result of this study showed that acupuncture can effectively decrease the total symptom scores of functional dyspepsia, treat gastrointestinal symptoms of patients. And acupuncture can also reduce the SAS scores and SDS scores, treat FD patients with anxiety and despression.
