Objective:To explore the possibility of ADC value of diffusion weighted imaging?DWI?to evaluate the edema of bone contusion and osteoarthritis; Methods:DWI of 30 volunteers aged 21-44 years old and 32 volunteers aged 45-69years old were undergone, volunteers were asymptomatic and had no abnormal imaging findings;17 patients who have accurate histories of knee trauma within three months and their imagings of MRI plain scan shows bone contusions;44 patients whose clinical manifestations and imaging findings showed knee osteoarthritis ROIs were selected in the sagittal position of ADC imaging, the ADC values of lesions or normal bone marrow were measured in each patients and volunteers. The independent sample t-test was used for statistical analysis.Results:1.The ADC values of bone contusions group[?0.93±0.22?×10-3mm2/S]showed significantly higher than that of the normal control group[?0.21±0.06?×10-3mm2/S]?p<0.01?.2.The ADC values of bone marrow lesions in the osteoarthritis group[?1.14±0.2?×10-3mm2/S]showed significantly higher than that of the normal control group[?0.21±0.06?×10-3mm2/S]?p<0.01?.3.The ADC values of bone marrow lesions in the osteoarthritis group[?1.14±0.2?×10-3mm2/S]showed significantly higher than that of the bone contusions group?p<0.01?.4.There was no statistical difference in ADC values of bone marrow between the normal group of the age in 21-44 years old[?0.21±0.07?×10-3mm2/S]and the normal group of the age in 45-69 years old[?0.21±0.06?×10-3mm2/S]?p>0.05?.Conclusion:1.The reference ADC values for normal knee bone marrow is?0.21±0.06?×10-3mm2/S.2.There is no significant difference in ADC values of bone marrow between the people aged 21-44 years old and the people aged45-69 years old.3.The ADC values of the bone contusions and that of the osteoarthritis are significantly higher than that of normal bone marrow.ADC values can be used to identify the bone marrow edema in the bone contusions and the osteoarthritis.
