Objective: Evaluate the effect of clinical pharmacy staff on the medication therapy management(MTM)given to middle-aged and elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)during hospitalization, including the impact on the patient’s health status, medication compliance and adverse events of patients. Methods: 69 middle-aged and elderly patients diagnosed with COPD from the Department of Respiratory Medicine of Yichun City People’s Hospital from May 2019 to November 2019 were selected.Random grouping is used:(1)MTM group: clinical pharmacy staff participate in medication therapy management;(2)Control group: under the traditional medical model no clinical pharmacy staff participates in the medication therapy management. The main observation indicators were the patient’s health status, medication compliance, and adverse drug events(ADE).Results: There were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of sex, age, length of hospital stay and length of illness(P>0.05);The CAT scores at discharge of patients in the MTM group were significantly better than those in the control group, and the difference was statistically significantly(P<0.05).Within the MTM group, the CAT scores on discharge were lower than those on admission, and the results were statistically significantly(P<0.05).The medication compliance of patients in the MTM group was significantly improved compared to the control group(P<0.05).Within the MTM group, the MMAS scores of patients at discharge were significantly higher than that at admission, and the results were statistically significantly(P<0.05).Although the adverse drug events in the MTM group also improved, the results were not statistically significant(P>0.05).Conclusion: The study shows that medication therapy management services provided to middle-aged and elderly COPD patients during hospitalization, can improve the patient’s health status and medication compliance and provide patients with better quality medical services. |
