Research Progress On The Correlation Between Inflammatory Cytokines And Depression

Depressive disorder is a serious mental illness,mainly manifested as persistent and significant depression,loss of interest and pleasure,accompanied by diet and sleep disorders,severe cases can even occur suicidal behavior.The disease has many characteristics,such as high prevalence,high disability and high disease burden and so on,and m ake serious impact on patients and families.But the pathogenesis is n ot clear,researchers have proposed many hypotheses,including hypoth alamic-pituitary-adrenal(HPA)axis dysfunction,excessive cytokines,m onoamine neurotransmitter disturbance.Recently,the cytokines theory tends to attract more attention,it suggests that depression is associate d with an overactive immune system.More evidence followed that de pression was associated with an increase in proinflammatory cytokine s and a decrease in anti-inflammatory cytokines.This paper summarize s the role of inflammatory cytokines in the mechanism of depression,aiming to provide a reference for clinical prevention.
