Meta-analysis Of The Effect Of Metformin On Prostate Cancer Patients With Diabetes Mellitus

Objective:Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world,and previous studies have shown that metformin is controversial in patients with prostate cancer and diabetes.Meta-analysis was used to observe the effect of metformin on prostate cancer patients with diabetes mellitus.Methods:With prostate cancer,metformin in both Chinese and English as the search terms,wanfang,China national knowledge network,Pubmed,Embase,Cochrane Library and other databases were searched.The retrieval period was from March 10,2019,when the database was established,and the journal catalog and references were searched manually,in an effort to find gray literatures such as unpublished academic papers and chapters in monographs.Results:Thirteen foreign literatures were included in the criteria,with a total of 37 468 patients.Meta analysis showed that metformin group could increase 10-years survival rate(OR = 1.95,95% CI: 1.13-3.37,P = 0.02),5-years non-biochemical recurrence survival rate(OR = 1.93,95% CI: 1.07-3.47,P = 0.03),and reduce 5-years specific death rate of prostate cancer(OR = 0.86,95% CI: 0.81-0.91,P < 0.00001).Conclusion:Metformin can improve the prognosis of prostate cancer patients with diabetes mellitus to a certain extent,but the above conclusions still need more and larger sample studies to further prove.
