A Comparative Study Of Escitalopram And Wuling Capsules In Treatment Epileptic Patients With Depression

Objective:To compare the efficacy and safety of escitalopram and Wuling capsules in the treatment of epileptic patients with depression.Methods:Seventy-eight epileptic patients with depression were collected from the department of the neurology,the First Hospital of Shanxi Medical University.Random number table method was used to randomly divide them into group A(escitalopram group)and group B(wuling capsule group),with 39 cases in each group.Group A: 39 cases were given escitalopram,10 mg,onedaily,oral.Group B: 39 cases were given Wuling capsule,3capsules,3 times/ day,oral.During the experiment,the original antiepileptic drug treatment regimen remained unchanged in both groups,and the courses of treatment in both groups were 12 weeks.Compared the efficacy of two drugs by evaluating changes in PHQ-9 scores and frequency of seizures before and after treatment at 4 weeks,8weeks,and 12 weeks.Blood routine,liver and kidney function,urine and stool routine and electrocardiogram examination were performed respectively after 12 weeks and before treatment to compare the side effects of two drugs.Results:(1)The comparison of anti-depression effect: After 4 weeks,8 weeks and 12 weeks of treatment,the PHQ-9 scores of both groups were significantly lower than those before treatment(P<0.05).There was a significant difference in the effect ofanti-depression between two groups respectively after 4 weeks and 8 weeks(P <0.05),but there was no statistical difference between two groups were treated after 12 weeks(P >0.05).(2)The comparison of anti-epileptic effects:After the treatment of 12 weeks,the seizure frequency in both groups were lower than before treatment,and there was a statistically significant difference(Baseline:Z=1.887,P=0.059;After treatment of 12weeks:Z=1.561,P=0.118).There was no significant difference between two groups in the seizure frequency after treatment of 12 weeks(The group A:Z=5.009,P<0.001;The group B:Z=6.388,P<0.001).(3)The comparison of adverse reaction: In group A,there was two cases of nausea,one case of dizziness,one case of decreased appetite,and the incidence of adverse reactions was 10.80%.In group B,there was one case of constipation,one case of nausea,and the incidence of adverse reactions was 5.26%.There were no significant differences in adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).After treatment of 12 weeks,the blood routine,liver and kidney function,urine and stool routine and electrocardiogram of the two groups were not significantly abnormal.No serious adverse events occurred in either group.Conclusion:(1)Escitalopram and Wuling capsules could safely and effectively improve the depression in the epileptic patients with depression,and there was no significant difference between two drugs.(2)Escitalopram and Wuling Capsules could reduce the frequency of epileptic seizure in the epileptic patients with depression,and there was no significant difference between two drugs.(3)Both drugs were safe at conventional doses.
