Objective: To systematically evaluate the association between breast milk expression and duration of breastfeeding. Methods: PubMed,Embase,The Cochrane Library,CNKI,CBM,WanFang databases were electronically searched to collect relevant studies about the association between breast milk expression and duration of lactation from inception to November 2019,using the keywords breast milk expression, breast milk pumping, duration, breastfeeding,et al.Two reviewers screened literature, extracted data and assessed the risk of bias of included studies independently.Meta-analysis was performed by using Stata 12.0 software. Results: A total of 6 prospective cohort studies were included, all of which were conducted between 2002 and 2013.Meta-analysis results showed that: breast milk expressing, including partial and completely pumping, had no effect on the duration of breastfeeding?HR=1.04,95%CI(0.61,1.78),P=0.877?.Partial breast milk expressing increased the risk of termination of breastfeeding?HR=1.23,95%CI(1.04,1.44),P=0.013?,However,it was poor stability by sensitivity analysis.Completely breast milk expressing significantly increased the risk of termination of breastfeeding?HR=1.91,95%CI(1.61,2.27),P=0.000?.Conclusion: Current evidence suggests that completely breast milk expressing will shorten duration of breastfeeding.
