ObjectiveTo investigate the therapeutic effect of topical corticosteroids injection and systemic application in the treatment of low frequency descending sudden hearingloss(SHL).MethodsA total of 78 patients with low frequency descending SHL from January 2016 to December 2018 were selected and divided into the systemic application group(group A)and the topical injection(group B).Group A received intravenous infusion of methylprednisolone 80mg/d for 3days,then 40mg/d for the next 4 days, while group B received postauricular injection of methylprednisolone 40mg/2d,both groups were treated until the hearing was restored to normal or 14 days after treatment.Pure tone audiometry was performed on the 7th and 14 th day.The changes in hearing threshold and the therapeutic effect were analyzed.ResultsThe hearing thresholds after treatment in both groups decreased onthe7 th and14th day.On the7 th day,the improvements of hearing threshold in group A and B were 14.59±10.00 dB and,19.50±8.53 dB respectively, the total effective rates were 51.28% and 74.36% respectively,(P<0.05).On the14 th day,the improvements of hearing threshold in group A and B were 20.27±9.32 dB and,22.22±8.23 dB respectively, the total effective rates were 79.49% and 82.05% respectively(P>0.05).ConclusionsBoth topical injection and systemic application of glucocorticoid are effective in patients with low frequency descending SHL.However, topical injection may achieve clinical efficacy earlier than systemic application.
